Broderick, the sister of actor Matthew Broderick, has been the pastor of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Morristown for nearly a decade.
St. Peter's had not announced a new rector as of Thursday morning. The California church welcomed Broderick in a video posted on its website.
A New York City native, Broderick grew up an actress and was the teen host of NBC's "Talking With a Giant." She said certain acting tricks lent went to her religious roles.
Parishioners will remember Broderick as was one of the greats.
"The CD Meeting will not be the same," parishioner Katie Dempsey said on Facebook. "All the best to a true individual with an authentic spirit and a sense of humor that will be missed."
"There will never be someone who can fill her shoes," Elmer Dante said.
